Cornerstones Program

The Cornerstones Program offers a range of general education courses designed to broaden Hebrew University students’ academic horizons beyond their chosen fields of study.

Grades from Cornerstone courses are calculated into students’ overall degree average but are not included in their departmental GPA. A minimum passing grade of 60 is required for each course.

Students Enrolled in a Single Faculty

Students must complete 8 credits from the Cornerstones Program in subjects outside their field of study—4 credits in the social sciences and 4 in the experimental field.

Students in the School of Education are required to complete 4 credits in the experimental field.

Students Enrolled in Two Faculties

Students enrolled in two different faculties are required to complete 4 credits from the Cornerstones Program, in either the social sciences or the experimental field.

For students studying in both the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences, 4 experimental credits will be counted toward their degree requirements in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

For students whose second major is in Education or in another faculty—such as Law, Natural Sciences, or others—2 credits will be applied toward their degree in the Faculty of Humanities, and 2 credits toward their degree in the second faculty.

Amirim Students Across Faculties

Faculty of Humanities: Students are required to complete 4 credits from the Cornerstones Program, all in the experimental field—2 credits counted toward their Amirim course requirements and 2 credits toward their second major.

Faculty of Social Sciences: Students must complete 4 credits in the experimental field as part of the Cornerstones Program, in addition to 60 credits in the Amirim framework. These Cornerstone credits will count toward their degree requirements in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Faculties in the Experimental Field (including the School of Occupational Therapy): Students are exempt from Cornerstones Program courses but are required to complete 60 credits in the Amirim Program within the humanities.

Students in the Cognitive Science Program and the PPE Program (Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics): Students are exempt from Cornerstones Program course requirements.
