Position: Yiddish Studies – Open Call for Applications

The Faculty of Humanities invites outstanding applicants to submit candidacy for a position in Yiddish studies

 

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites applications for a tenure-track position in Yiddish Studies within the Faculty of Humanities. The position is open to candidates from all areas of Yiddish Studies and at all academic ranks who hold a Ph.D.

Advanced doctoral candidates may also apply, provided they complete their degree by June 30, 2026.

 

Position Expectations:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach both required and elective courses in their areas of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They should demonstrate the ability to conduct independent and original research of the highest academic standard, show potential for international academic leadership, and actively apply for competitive research grants from external funding bodies.

Applicants should have a proven record of academic initiative, curriculum development, student supervision, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Faculty and across the University.

Depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s qualifications, the position may include a joint appointment or shared teaching responsibilities with other departments or programs.

The primary language of instruction at the Hebrew University is Hebrew. However, candidates may teach advanced-level courses in English. Candidates not yet proficient in Hebrew will be expected to acquire proficiency during their initial years at the University.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an on-campus visit, which will include a job talk, an interview, and meetings with faculty members.
